Collect

God of mercy and compassion, who led Saint Marguerite d’Youville to embrace the way of the Cross and to devote her ardent love to assist the needy of her day, make us bold like her, we pray, so that we may imitate your own compassion, and have the strength to persevere until the day you call us to share the joy of your saints. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, you Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

Readings

First Reading

Ephesians 1:11-14 (ferial)

In Christ we have obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory.

In Christ also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. This is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Or
1 Corinthians 13:4-13 (sanctoral)

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.

For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end.

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Or
James 2:14-18 (sanctoral)

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 33:1-2, 4-5, 12-13 (ferial)

R: Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous. Praise befits the upright. Praise the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings.

R: Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

R: Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage. The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all human beings.

R: Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Or
Psalm 146:5-6b, 6c-7b, 7c-9a, 9b-10b (sanctoral)

R: Blessed be the Lord, a God of mercy and love.

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them.

R: Blessed be the Lord, a God of mercy and love.

The Lord keeps faith forever and executes justice for the oppressed. The Lord gives food to the hungry and sets the prisoners free.

R: Blessed be the Lord, a God of mercy and love.

The LORD opens the eyes of the blind and lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous and watches over the strangers.

R: Blessed be the Lord, a God of mercy and love.

The Lord upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.

R: Blessed be the Lord, a God of mercy and love.

Gospel Acclamation

Cantor: Alleluia, Alleluia.
All: Alleluia.

Psalm 33:22 (ferial)

Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.

Or

All: Alleluia.

Gospel

Luke 12:1-7 (ferial)

When the crowd had gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.

“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Or
Matthew 25:31-40 (sanctoral)

Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.

“Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ’Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ’Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’

“And the king will answer them, ’Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.’”

Sprinkling of Water

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

People: Blessed be God forever.

Priest: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.

People: Blessed be God forever.

Priest: Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Prayer over the Offerings

Accept the offering of your Church, O Lord, on this memorial of Saint Marguerite, and from it grant us the wisdom and strength for the work of serving our neighbour in unity and in joy. Through Christ our Lord.

The Preface

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just.

The sign of a life consecrated to God.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For in the Saints who consecrated themselves to Christ for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven it is right to celebrate the wonders of your providence, by which you call human nature back to its original holiness and bring it to experience on earth the gifts you promise in the new world to come. And so, with all the Angels and Saints, we praise you as without end we acclaim:

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Eucharistic Prayers

The Eucharistic Prayer

The priest selects from several options including the following.
Opening Rite

Communion Rite

Lord’s Prayer

Priest: At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Sign of Peace

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.
All: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All: And with your spirit.

Deacon or Priest: Let us offer each other a sign of peace.

Breaking of the Bread

All: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

Communion

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Communion Antiphon

The valiant woman who can find? She opens her hand to the poor, and reaches out her hands to the needy.

Prayer after Communion

Grant, O Lord, that the sacrament of which we have partaken may lead us to show your kindness and your compassion to all and prepare us for the joys of the eternal banquet. Through Christ our Lord.
